While I mature as a follower of Jesus Christ, the one thing I have struggled with over the years is discerning God’s thoughts amongst my own.
I am naturally an over thinker. When I ponder on my thoughts, I find myself going down a rabbit hole, questioning the source and validity of what
I’m thinking. “Is this coming from you God?”, “ Is this my will or your will?”
All of that changed when I began to understand that God isn’t a God of confusion. His thoughts, his guidance and instruction been right in front of me all along and it has never changed.
It’s in The Bible and I need to look no further to find my answers about everything.
I’ve fallen in love with the book of proverbs because, as an over thinker, sometimes I just need a simple instruction or message.
If I was lost and someone explained that the location is right, left, left and another right, how could I possibly get lost? The path to my destination was in the words of instruction.
We find ourselves in a state of confusion and turmoil when we haven’t listened to the instructions given. The book of proverbs is the self -help book i’ve needed all along. The difference between me and my younger self is recognising the simplicity of life lies in reading the manual. I no longer want to throw away the manufacturer’s manual and do things according to my own understanding. I’m mature enough now to take my time and read how it should be done so I don’t waste any more time making up for the costly mistakes I could have avoided.
In Proverbs 8, God [speaking through King Solomon] reminds us that God is fluent in righteousness and truth. In simpler terms, when God speaks, he only speaks what is right and just. He only says what is pure and honest. Those who understand will walk a straight path and never stumble.
The next time you have a thought, with the presence of mind to reflect on it, ask yourself: Did it reflect righteousness? Was it just? Was it the truth? Was it pure [free of any malice/evil]?
